Chapter Seven

Cassium’s body thrummed with arousal. Need and want and lust all swirled through him like the finest wine, making it difficult to concentrate. Even with his small cabin crowded with others, he wanted to say fuck ‘em and drag— well, carry—his beloved into the bedroom to begin their bond.

Instead, he knew he’d have to sit through a very painful— based on the state of his hard cock—not to mention possibly uncomfortable conversation. Scenting Garth’s arousal combined with uncertainty, he knew he needed to back off...at least long enough for them to get the others out of the cabin.

Besides, Marilyn had just saved Garth from a possibly permanent injury. Damn witchy abilities. Oh well, he could deal as a way of saying thank you.

“Okay,” Gypsum rumbled, picking up his coffee mug and heading toward them. “I’m gonna need some info, Garth. I need to know what we’re gonna be up against to help out your little ones. Are there mothers that might cause problems that we should be aware of? What’s the name of your alpha and where is your herd located?” He settled on the reclining chair that Cassium had spent the night in and rested his right ankle on his left knee. “I need specifics, my man. Gotta know what kind of shit-storm we’re getting into, after all.” He ended with a wink and a wide grin.

Cassium knew Gypsum had a brusque, no-nonsense manner when needed. He also knew he was a pretty funloving guy. Still, even with this laid-back approach, Gypsum seemed to be intimidating Garth.

Knowing Gypsum didn’t intend to make his shifter uncomfortable, Cassium rested his back against the sofa. He placed his left arm along the side of the sofa, touching the shifter’s hand. Casting a reassuring look Garth’s way, he hoped he encouraged him.

Garth stared at him for an instant, then swept his gaze to the second woman who’d joined them.

“Ah, sorry, handsome,” Cassium murmured, realizing his error. “That’s Clarice, an enforcer for our coven. She’s a badass,” he added, winking. “But has a good heart.”

Clarice snickered. “Ah, what a way to be described. A badass with a good heart.” She buffered her nails on her shirt as she stated, “Add in that I’m loyal, and I won’t tell him about the time you pissed off Chef Vaughn by forgetting to replace the fryer’s grease plug after cleaning it out.”

Garth’s brows shot up.

Cassium scowled. “Clarice!” He growled her name in warning.

“Uh, my alpha is Donner Nostrum and my beta is Clark Flowers. They’ve been leaders since before I was born, thirty-eight years ago,” Garth told them, finally answering Gypsum’s questions. “Our herd will settle somewhere for about twenty years, then move on, the whole lot of us.”

Garth nibbled his bottom lip for an instant, making Cassium wish he could suck the full lip into his own mouth.

After a few seconds, Garth continued. “They keep track of who has offspring with whom and will sometimes order pairs to procreate together to increase herd numbers and diversify bloodlines.
